How to choose incense: Hojari resin or a Dhofari blend

The shop has two different scent paths: Hojari frankincense resin burned as it is, and prepared Dhofari incense blends. Mixing those up is the usual reason a product does not match the habit. Resin gives you the tree. A blend gives you a composition made for the room.

When the right choice is frankincense

Hojari frankincense pieces for burning

If you want the smell of frankincense itself, clean and recognizable, start with resin rather than a blend. We have two practical burning grades:

  • First-grade pieces for repeated burning. The pieces are medium to large, the smell is a gentle frankincense, and they suit daily use at home.
  • Sultani when the occasion matters more than the daily habit. The pieces are larger and the frankincense smell is stronger. Its page limits it to formal burning.

First-grade Dhakar and Royal Green are also described for chewing and drinking, not as majlis incense. If you want smoke for guests, do not start with those two.

When the right choice is Dhofari incense

Dhofari Drop incense

Prepared incense is not a frankincense tear. It is a finished blend, usually on a scented base, burned for a composed smell rather than the resin alone. The Dhofari incense category is where those blends sit, including Dhofari Drop.

Choose this path when you already know the kind of room scent you want and you want it ready-made, not when you want to smell Hojari frankincense itself. Read the blend’s own page before you buy. Each incense has its own character, and the Hojari grade descriptions do not apply to it.

Putting resin on the coal

Our frankincense pages follow the traditional way: a quiet coal and a small piece, not a burner filled at once. A large piece on a fierce coal scorches the resin and turns the smell sharp instead of frankincense-like. With the pieces and with Sultani, start with one piece and add more only after the scent has settled.

A rule for choosing

  • The smell of frankincense itself, every day: first-grade pieces.
  • Frankincense for guests: Sultani.
  • A ready Dhofari blend: the Dhofari incense category, after reading that product’s page.
  • Chewing or drinking: use the Hojari grades guide, not the incense blends.
